Course description

This course examines contemporary French through different media (music, videos, texts) and various subjects related to global or French news, recent history, and culture. The emphasis is on oral work in French (comprehension and expression).

Pre-Requisite(s): FREN*1300

Course Learning Outcomes:

• Understand spoken French through the study of its characteristics.
• Understand standard spoken French as used in the media and in casual communication.
• Function adequately in oral contexts (comprehension and expression).
• Participate in exchanges of information on a variety of personal and more academic subjects
• Identifies strategies for effective oral comprehension and expression.
• Explore tools and strategies for understanding and interpretation of various topics

Policy on the Use of AI and Digital Tools

When using any digital assistance (e.g., grammar checkers, translators, or generative AI tools such as ChatGPT or Deepl) for assignments completed outside or inside of class, students must include a Digital Assistance Statement at the end of the assignment. The statement must identify the tools used and their purpose; and must provide 1–2 examples of how the tools were used and indicate whether the suggestions were accepted or rejected.
