Master’s Student Today, Registered Dietitian Tomorrow

Megan Rohde had always been passionate about science, health, helping others, and food. This made choosing to study Applied Human Nutrition (AHN) at the University of Guelph a natural fit for her, given the University’s reputation in food science and its welcoming environment.

With a keen focus on becoming a dietitian and with the support of some exceptionally kind professors, Megan Rohde’s undergrad would not only set her on a path to achieve her goals, it also earned her multiple awards including the AHN Dietetic Prize, Joan (Ellerington) Tanner Memorial Prize, and the Morton and Pauline Schmidt Memorial Scholarship.

After graduating in 2025 Megan would continue her academic journey at U of G, enrolling in the Master of Applied Nutrition (MAN) program, bringing her one step closer to becoming a registered dietician.

Interview with Megan Rohde

Tell us about yourself and why you chose to study Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph?

I have always had a passion for science, health, helping others, and food, which naturally led me to study Applied Human Nutrition at the University of Guelph. I was especially drawn to Guelph for its strong reputation in food and nutrition, as well as its welcoming, community-like atmosphere.

What did you like most about your program? Is there anything in particular about the courses or professors that stands out to you?

I really appreciated the variety of courses offered in the Applied Human Nutrition program. I was able to take core nutrition courses alongside science courses such as biochemistry and physiology, as well as hospitality and counselling courses, which provided a strong and well-rounded education. The professors were also incredibly kind, supportive, and genuinely invested in student success.

Where are you currently working and what is your role?

I am currently enrolled in the Master of Applied Nutrition (MAN) program at the University of Guelph, working toward becoming a Registered Dietitian. As a part of this program, I am completing three practicum rotations in clinical, food service, and public health settings. I am currently in my clinical placement at St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph, where I provide nutrition care under the supervision of Registered Dietitians across long-term care, complex continuing care, and rehabilitation settings.

How did your degree and time at the University of Guelph help get you to where you are today? How do the skills and education you gained help with your current work?

What advice would you give someone considering the Applied Human Nutrition program or applying to the University of Guelph?

I would definitely encourage anyone considering the Applied Human Nutrition program to go for it! Nutrition is a rapidly growing field with many exciting opportunities. For those thinking about applying to the University of Guelph more generally, I would highly recommend it as well.

Where was your favourite place to eat on campus and what was your go-to food order?

My favourite place to eat on campus was the 100 Mile Grill at Creelman Hall - my go-to order was the “Breakfast in Bread” sandwich.

In your opinion where is the best place to study on campus?

I always enjoyed the quiet floor of the library!

What was your pre-exam ritual?

Getting a good night's sleep and having a good breakfast the morning of.
