About the Graduate Preparation Program
The Graduate Preparation Program (GPP) is an intensive 8-month program that specifically targets the language and academic skills that students need in order to be successful graduate students in Canada.
The General Pathway Option
This option is for students interested in applying for any graduate program in Canada. Students who complete this program will receive a GPP Diploma (General Pathway).
Completion of the GPP General Pathway does not guarantee admission to the University of Guelph or other degree programs. For information on admission to graduate programs please contact the Office of Graduate Studies.

Admission Requirements
To meet the requirements for entry into the GPP, you must have the following:
- A minimum of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent*
- Four-year bachelor's degree from a recognized university with a minimum B average
- Serious commitment to enrol in graduate studies
* A minimum intermediate level of English is required. If you are entering with an intermediate level of English, it could take a year or longer to complete the program, depending on your English proficiency and level placement.

Current Students - GPP Refund Policy
There is no refund available for current GPP students. Eligible students will receive a 100% refund on course fees* for any GPP modules that ELP is not able to deliver. Alternatively students may transfer fees to the next available offering. Please note that medical Insurance fees are non-refundable
* Course fees = Tuition + Student Services
The refund policy applies only to fees paid to the University of Guelph English Language Programs. Any additional fees paid to third parties are not subject to this policy.
ELP applicants must request a refund and forward a copy (PDF) of their IRCC denial letter to scs-english@uoguelph.ca within two months of the denial letter date. Refund requests received after this time frame will be denied.
Application Fee: The $150 application fee is non-refundable.
