Sustainability at Catering & Conference Services
At the University of Guelph, sustainability is woven into everything we do—including our catering services. Our commitment to environmental stewardship, local sourcing, and waste reduction ensures that your event not only runs smoothly, but also supports a healthier planet.
Local & Ethical Sourcing
We proudly serve:
- Locally roasted, Fair Trade Coffee & Tea
- Locally sourced produce, protein, and dairy, including ingredients grown right here on campus
- Fresh, from-scratch meals made using seasonal, high-quality ingredients from local farmers, producers, and processors
Our culinary and procurement teams work together to prioritize regional partnerships that reflect our values of freshness, sustainability, and community support.
Sustainable Service Options
We’ve adopted a number of eco-friendly practices to reduce waste and single-use items:
- Biodegradable plates, cups, and cutlery
- 100% recycled napkins
- Paper bags and straws only upon request—plastic alternatives have been fully removed
- Bulk condiments to reduce packaging waste
- Compost collection of food scraps and coffee grounds in collaboration with the U of G Sustainability Office
Food Waste Reduction
Reducing food waste is central to our philosophy. We carefully manage large-volume food preparation and aim to eliminate unnecessary surplus. Here's how we act:
- Donation of surplus food to the Campus Food Bank and local charities
- Composting of non-recoverable food waste
- Client guidance: We’re happy to help you plan quantities effectively to minimize excess—just ask your catering contact!
