    About

Hi! I am Antonio Pensado, a Mexican scholar with an interest in living and fostering respectful human-human-nonhuman relationships, as well as in aiding individual, collective, and institutional efforts towards socioecologically just transitions. My main research interests are transdisciplinary work, community engaged scholarship, socioecological change, commons governance, and, more recently, decolonial, critical and posthuman approaches to sustainability.
Not fully convinced of disciplinary boundaries, I have been long interested in inter- and transdisciplinary work, moving throughout my career from Biology (BSc) to the interdisciplinary Sustainability Sciences (MSc), and now on to the praxis-oriented Social Practice and Transformational Change (SOPR) doctoral programme.
As a sustainability-oriented scholar, I aspire to enhance my role in facilitating collective initiatives that critically cross, bridge, and deconstruct the traditional boundaries separating academic fields, collective subjectivities, academia from the wider community, and humans from the more-than-human world. I chose the Social Practice and Transformational Change (SOPR) doctoral programme due to its critical and transdisciplinary nature, its ethical approach to community engaged and decolonising scholarship, and its focus on grassroots movements towards social justice.
Back in Mexico, I am an academic staff currently affiliated to the Universidad Veracruzana’s Tropical Research Centre, having worked previously at the university’s Sustainability Coordination. My work has been mainly focused on the study and development of sustainability policies, local environmental governance initiatives, university-community partnerships, and teaching and learning innovations. I am also a member of the Latin American and the Caribbean (LAC) Advisory Committee of the Educational Partnerships for Innovation in Communities Network (EPIC-N).
