    About

Dave Heidebrecht is a scholar-practitioner working at the intersections of political sociology to understand how community groups and residents can influence decision-making in local institutions. Building on his experiences as a community advocate, an organizational change facilitator, and community-engaged learning educator, Dave’s scholarship is grounded in principles of relationality, justice, collaboration, and a commitment to act. Reflecting these commitments, Dave’s research is taking a collaborative ethnographic approach to understanding leadership and inclusion practices of co-creation as an approach to integrating and elevating underrepresented voices in policymaking in Hamilton, Ontario.

Dave chose the SOPR program due to its focus on developing skills for interdisciplinary scholarship that is founded upon relationally, community, and both personal and communal praxis.
