Statistics

Department of Mathematics and Statistics, College of Physical and Engineering Science.

General Program Area of Concentration

A minimum of 10 Mathematics and Statistics courses is required:

At least 6 Statistics courses must be included of which

  1. at least 7 must be above the 100 level
  2. at least 4 must be above the 200 level.

The recommended courses are 63-120, 63-121, 63-215, 89-204, 89-205, 89-310, 89-311, 89-324, 89-332, 89-326,89-435.

Honours Program Major

A minimum of 16 Mathematics and Statistics courses is required:

  1. 63-120, 63-121,63-213, 63-215, 63-220, 89-204,89-205,89-310,89-311, 89-324, 89-332 .
  2. 5 additional courses with at least 3 Statistics courses at the 400 level and 2 other 300 or 400 level courses in Mathematics or Statistics.

(Students are strongly urged to take as electives one or more Mathematics courses such as 63-200, 63-216, 63-217, 63-221, 63-313, 63-324, 63-326, 63-351 etc.)

Notes:

Those planning to enter any of the Statistics programs should take 63-120 in the first semester, 63-121 in the second. A 70% average in the mathematics courses of semesters 1 and 2 is highly recommended for the major program. Those contemplating graduate study in Statistics should take Mathematics courses additional to those recommended below, such as 63-216, 63-217, 63-313,63-316,63-320, 63-326, 63-443. Also, 89-434 is strongly recommended. Students should note that some courses in this program require computer programming skills.
