2022 Lung and Respiratory Disease Request for Proposals

Description

AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) mission is to advance the health of all dogs and their owners by funding sound scientific research and supporting the dissemination of health information to prevent, treat and cure canine disease. CHF supports basic science discovery and clinical research. This call is for proposals in the Lung & Respiratory Disease Research Program Area. This program area supports research that will enhance our understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of diseases that compromise respiratory function in dogs.

CHF encourage proposals that emphasize incorporating a One Health model as a critical tool to achieve CHF’s vision of a multidisciplinary approach to address the health needs of all dogs and their people.

Research into molecular mechanisms that contribute to acute and chronic respiratory morbidity, the pathophysiology of disease, the genetic/epigenetic basis of disease and identification of potential therapeutic drugs that will treat or diminish the symptoms associated with disease are of interest. Proposals may also address but are not limited to the following topics:

  • Acute or chronic infectious disease
  • Brachycephalic syndrome
  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia
  • Chylothorax
  • Clinical evaluation of the upper and/or lower respiratory tract
  • Everted laryngeal saccules or other disorders of the larynx
  • Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
  • Lung lobe torsion
  • Lymphoplasmacytic rhinitis
  • Non-infectious diseases of the upper or lower respiratory tract

  • Tracheal collapse
  • Respiratory disease epidemiology and control
  • Inhalant disease in urban settings
