Description
The Dorothy Killam Fellowships provide time release to support to scholars (faculty) of exceptional ability who are engaged in research projects of broad significance and widespread interest within the disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering, or studies linking any of these disciplines.
These fellowships are for early to mid-career scholars (faculty), typically no more than 15 years past completion of a PhD.
All applications are evaluated by the Selection Committee against the following criteria:
- Significance: the importance of the research toward building Canada’s future
- Advancement of knowledge: details on the proposed research, how it advances knowledge in the field and the applicant’s knowledge mobilization strategy
- Methods: Description of the approach, hypothesis and statement of problem
- Relevance: attainability of proposed immediate and long-term outcomes; a clear, compelling and specific knowledge mobilization plan; and information on how the applicant reflects the Killam attributes
Eligibility
To be considered eligible, you:
- must be a faculty member living and working in Canada at a Canadian institution(s) in the early-to-mid stage in their career (typically no more than 15 years since the completion of a PhD),
- must be employed by a university or other research institute for the duration of the fellowship (2 years) and will submit a proof of employment, and

Fellowships are intended as release time from teaching and administrative duties. They are awarded to individuals, but the funds are paid to and administered by the Canadian university or research institute that employs them.
You must obtain support for research and laboratory costs from other sources.
Special Notes
Please note that research activities carried out in the context of COVID-19 need to adhere to the University of Guelph COVID-19 research principles, policies, guidelines and processes as they may be updated from time to time and communicated on the Office of Research web-page.
