Gairdner Week Early Career Investigator Competition 2022

Description

The Canada Gairdner Foundation invites early career investigators across Canada to submit an application to present their research as part of the Gairdner Science Week virtual events in October. The Gairdner Foundation was established in 1957 with the main goal of recognizing and rewarding international excellence in fundamental research that impacts human health.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must be faculty or professionals at the Assistant Professor or equivalent rank in Canada.

Prize

Four investigators will be chosen to give 15 minute talks in association with the Laureate Lectures in autumn of 2022 and to participate in a networking session with the 2022 laureates. The talks will be broadcast live and recorded for YouTube distribution globally.

The talks must relate to the work of the laureates:

  • Pieter Cullis/Katalin Kariko/Drew Weissman – lipid chemistry leading to vaccine development
  • John Dick – stem cell biology
  • Stu Orkin – genetic disorders of hemoglobin
  • Zulfiqar Bhutta – child and maternal mental health and nutrition
  • Deborah Cook – critical care medicine and health research methodology

The laureates choose the winners.

Please also submit a copy of the completed application to research.services@uoguelph.ca.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit a 100 word summary of your research presentation, plus a two (2) minute video explaining how your science relates to one or more of this year’s laureates and what you hope to learn from your interactions with them in addition to an application form through the online application found on the Gairdner Week Early Career Investigator Competition web-page. As you start to prepare your application, please email research.honours@uoguelph.ca to notify us of your intent to apply.

Please also submit a completed application to research.services@uoguelph.ca by the external deadline.
