Description
Accelerate your collaborative research with enhanced funding — for a limited time.
Up to $75,000 per year for three years is now available to postdoctoral fellows pursuing applied research in partnership with a company, not-for-profit organization, municipality, or hospital.

Eligibility
All participants must adhere to the terms and conditions of the Mitacs Accelerate program in addition to meeting the following requirements.
The postdoctoral fellow must:
- Be a postdoctoral fellow at a Canadian academic institution when the research project starts.
- Be within five years of PhD completion at the start of the project.
- Partner with an organization where they have never been a full-time employee.
The partner organization must be able to allocate the following budget per year to the collaborative research project:
- $30,000 (plus tax) for a $60,000 award.
- $37,500 (plus tax) for a $75,000 award.
Funding Availability
The $75,000 per year funding model is a time-limited offer running from October 31, 2025, to December 19, 2025.

Eligibility for Indigenous Pathways
This offer can be applied to the Mitacs’ Indigenous Pathways initiative, which lowers the partner contribution amount to 25% of the award value. See Mitacs' Indigenous Pathways page for more details, including eligibility criteria.

How to Apply
To submit an application to this limited time opportunity from Mitacs, potential applicants must follow the below steps:
- Please first connect with Guelph’s Mitacs Advisor, Fatemeh Bakhtiari (fbakhtiari@mitacs.ca) to discuss your potential project. Mitacs will pre-review the proposed partner(s) and intern(s) to assess and confirm eligibility.

Please note, the following application requirements must be met:
- Project duration can be from 4 months (1 IU) to 3 years.
- Partner(s) and intern(s), as applicable, must be pre-reviewed and deemed eligible by Mitacs.
- Partner(s) must be supplying new funds, to be invoiced by Mitacs, and subject to HST (*see note below).
- Applications to this program do require a named intern.
- Following meeting the above criteria, the lead researcher will initiate an application in Mitacs’ portal, which, once completed, will be pre-reviewed by Mitacs. Once this pre-review is complete, the lead researcher/supervisor must submit a PDF of the application (includes sign-off/approval by the lead researcher, intern(s), and partner(s)), along with a signed OR-5 to the Research Services Office at research.services@uoguelph.ca.
*Please note: If the proposed partner funding being utilized in an application is unspent funding already under an agreement/account at the University, the lead researcher must contact the Research Services Office before engaging Mitacs to verify the ability to use the funds for a Mitacs Accelerate application. This will require review of the account and agreement, and engagement with Research Financial Services, to review options for utilizing the funding already at the University.
