Mitacs Globalink Research Award Program

Description

Mitacs is pleased to announce a series of calls for applications with select international partner organizations. 

The Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA)-Mitacs GRA partnership:

  • Inbound to Canada
  • Call: open until October 2, 2020
  • Expected Outcome Letter: December 2020
  • Projects must start within a year of receiving the Outcome Letter
  • Award of Can$6,000
  • Eligibility: Master’s 1 and 2, PhD and postdoctoral students from UGA

Action items and application process:

  • Applications must be submitted through UGA’s online submission platform by October 2.
  • The Canadian host supervisor must ensure that the endorsement of the Canadian university is secured in advance of the development of the application. They can contact their local Mitacs Business Development representative for more information on how to obtain their university’s endorsement.
  • The Canadian university endorsement process is part of a new initiative that Mitacs has introduced to ensure that Canadian universities are able to optimize GRA placements to support their strategic research priorities and co-fund the initiative with Mitacs as part of the Canadian contribution to the projects.

UKRI-Canada Globalink Doctoral Exchange Scheme:

  • Inbound to Canada
  • Call: September 29, 2020 to December 8, 2020
  • Projects must take place between April 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022
  • Award between £10,000 – £15,000
  • Eligibility: PhD students from UK universities funded by the Research Councils of UK Research and Innovation

Action items and application process:

  • Canadian professors who want to register their interest in working with UKRI students can do so by entering their details on the UKRI-Mitacs Globalink host professor expression of interest form. (Please note that all details entered on this form will be made publicly available.)
  • Professors who have already identified a suitable researcher are asked to ensure that the doctoral student from the UK first submit their application directly through the UKRI website.
  • Canadian faculty are also asked to be aware the students from the UK may reach out proactively to request supervision for projects funded through this program.

Mitacs Globalink Research Award Thematic Call:

To complement existing Mitacs international partnerships in support of researcher mobility, Mitacs will launch a call for applications to the Globalink Research Awards (GRA) program in four thematic areas:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Quantum technologies
  • Green economy
  • Pandemic preparedness

The call will be open from October 1 to December 1, and more specific information about this opportunity will be released, as well as be made available on Mitacs' website. 

Special Notes

It is important to note that Globalink projects must be done in-person and cannot be done remotely.
