European Commission's Horizon Europe - Pillar 2 Research Alert

Horizon Europe Work Programmes

Description

Canada is now formally associated with Horizon Europe Pillar II, opening new doors for researchers and innovators to lead and participate in world-class R&D consortia. The Horizon Europe International Mobility Award (IMA) is a short-term strategic initiative to support Canadian faculty and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in joining or building Horizon Europe consortia. This offering will provide short-term funding to facilitate travel and in-person engagement with European collaborators – addressing a well-recognized barrier to meaningful participation in one of the globe’s largest research funding frameworks.

Mitacs’s IMA initiative supports Canada’s national objectives by:

  • Strengthening partnerships with European researchers and institutions;
  • Enabling early proposal development for competitive Horizon Europe calls;
  • Enhancing Canada’s reputation as a reliable and forward-looking R&D partner; and,
  • Increasing Canadian access to funding targeting multilateral approaches to global challenges.

Eligibility

Applications must be submitted by one faculty member at an eligible post-secondary institution, with the option to include either one additional faculty member or one full-time employee of an SME Partner Organization. Applications must not include more than two travelers.

There are no restrictions on academic disciplines or industry sectors, however, fields must align with Horizon Europe calls for proposals and/or corresponding European research consortia.

Maximum Project Value

Up to $5,000 CAD per applicant, or $10,000 CAD total for two participants.

Following meeting the above criteria, the lead researcher will submit a completed copy of the application form along with signed OR-5 to the Research Services Office (research.services@uoguelph.ca) a minimum of one week prior to the intended submission date to Mitacs. Mitacs will carefully review all applications and select successful participants based on:

  • Excellence of the applicants;
  • Strength of existing ties to consortia;
