Description

Overview

This program funds innovative research that uses sport as a setting or tool to promote mental health among young men in Canada. Grants of up to CAD $180,000 are available for projects starting in early 2026, with a duration of up to 24 months.

Goals

  • Address gaps in early intervention and prevention for young men's mental health.
  • Use community or individualized sports (e.g., team sports, rock climbing, gym) to create impact.

Focus Areas

Applicants must target one of the following:

  1. Design of sports programs (sport as the intervention)
  2. Policies for sports programs
  3. Interventions delivered in sports settings

Priority Themes

  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
  • Psychological safety for athletes, parents and coaches
  • Technology and digital engagement

Eligibility

  • Must be a Postdoctoral Fellow or Early Career Researcher (within 7 years of PhD, excluding career interruptions).
  • Must be affiliated with a Canadian institution.
  • Requires a qualified supervisor or mentor.
  • Institution must be open to providing Monetary or in-kind contribution to the project (i.e., teaching release time).
  • Able to leverage partnerships with industry/delivery partners.

External Deadline

Applications must be submitted by September 26, 2025 at 5:00 pm EDT using Movember’s electronic grant management system (Foundant). Late or incomplete applications, or applications submitted outside of Foundant, will not be accepted. There will be no appeal process to late submissions.
