Description

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario-based industries and academic institutions are coming together to form strategies and provide support for this ongoing global crisis. As such, the work that needs to be done in advanced manufacturing, bioinformatics, molecular modelling, vaccine development and epidemiology demands considerable computational capacity.

The SOSCIP COVID-19 Response aims to provide rapid access to high-performance computing (HPC) resources on our advanced computing platforms. Through industry-academic partnerships, compute space for collaborators committed to responding to COVID-19 will be fast-tracked, and successful applicants will be rapidly launched onto the compute systems.

Projects must:

  • Involve an academic and industry partner focusing on a COVID-19 related challenge
  • Provide rapid access to High-Performance Computing platforms (GPU and/or Cloud)
  • Have an initial project scope/timeline of 6-8 months

SOSCIP Supports Applicants through:

  • Expedited research project approvals and quick start date
  • Identifying academic experts to join the collaboration
  • Working closely with federal and provincial funding organizations to ensure financial research support is available when required

Special Notes

Please refer to the Office of Research COVID 19 web-page for directives related to research activities at the University of Guelph.

  • What computational approach will be taken and what high performance computing resources are required?
  • How does this use of the computing resource address the uncertainties in the research?

Collaboration

  • What is the nature of the collaboration between the academic and industry partner?
