Nature X Carbon Tech Challenge
Description
WWF-Canada is seeking cost-effective, innovative and user-friendly technologies (hardware and/or software) to support community-led carbon measurement of nature-based climate solutions in Canada.
Award recipients could receive up to $125,000 in grants and contracts, in addition to other awards, to support the application of their technology in the field.
Over the summer, WWF-Canada will be hosting webinars, providing opportunities for potential applicants to connect with the Challenge team, and sharing more information to help participants create their submissions.
Challenge Streams
Carbon is stored differently in different ecosystems. Therefore, the tools and techniques used to measure carbon in nature will differ depending on the system of study. The Nature x Carbon challenge focuses on technologies that measure carbon in terrestrial and coastal ecosystems. The categories include: Biomass, Soils, and Ecosystems.
Applying
WWF will start accepting proposals on September 7th, 2021. Please email Kristin Gibson in the Office of Research Services at kristin5@uoguelph.ca if you intend to apply. The application and OR-5 will be due to the Office of Research one week prior to submission to WWF. There is no published deadline at this time; WWF indicates that applications will be accepted between September and November 2021.
Eligibility
WWF is looking for academics, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and inventors.
Eligible participants include:

co-operative non-profits,

for-profit entities,

public sector,

collaboratives (project of more than one organization with the same legal form), or

multi-sectoral (project of more than one organization with different legal forms)
