Co-funded by CQDM and Brain Canada, the national funding program Focus on Brain aims at developing cutting-edge technologies, platforms or tools with immediate and strong impact on the R&D process of new drugs that prevent, treat or cure disorders of the brain, nervous system and special senses
Applications must be from a team of two or more eligible investigators. At least one investigator from the academic sector is mandatory. Teams may include investigators from the academic sector only; however, since SMEs are well-placed to contribute industry know-how and to link the developed technologies, platforms or tools with potential users, they are considered to bring great added value to this program.
**Although not mandatory, collaborations between the academic sector and SMEs are strongly encouraged**
Grants will be for a maximum of $500,000 per year for up to three years ($1.5M in total). The overall budget details must be clear and well justified. Depending on the quality of applications, approximately 3-4 grants are likely to be awarded.
This Program has a two stage application process. Researchers are first required to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI), and only applicants whose letter of intent is selected will be invited to submit a full project proposal.
If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.
How to Apply
Researcher will be responsible for submitting the LOI to sponsor in accordance with the sponsor’s instructions.
Funding will be awarded following a two stage competitive process:
- Letters of Intent: applicants must submit a letter of intent describing the project to the Partners.
- For those invited LOIs invited to full proposal the deadlines are as follows: INTERNAL DEADLINE to Office of Research, April 14, 2016 and the EXTERNAL DEADLINE to sponsor: April 28, 2016 by 5pm
