Welcome to the website for the Chief Information Officer.

As CIO my responsibility is to ensure that effective information resources, information services and information technologies are available to the members of the University of Guelph community. This site will provide current news and background information on the activities of the CIO.

The dedicated staff of the Office, the Library and CCS are focused on providing high quality services and resources. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the CIO team if you have questions or comments.

About the Chief Information Officer

The Chief Information Officer (CIO), as the enterprise information architect, is responsible for the overall strategy and policy administration of the University’s information technology, information services and information resources.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President (Academic), this position is accountable for providing the vision, leadership and advocacy for the development and use of information systems (IS), information resources (IR) and information technology (IT) to further the academic mission and to support the administrative requirements of the University. The CIO will facilitate innovation and integrated solutions in support of teaching, learning, research, service and administration in an environment of strategic directions, collaboration and shared responsibility.

The CIO has overall responsibility and accountability for the administration of both the Library (as Chief Librarian) and Computing and Communications Services (CCS).

The CIO will facilitate the work of CCS and the Library in achieving their specific mandates and will seek opportunities to attain integrated solutions to campus challenges. Information technologies and information services both support core functions and are a platform for transformation and innovation. The CIO must build and leverage this IT ecology to enable change and yet still ensure operational effectiveness.

The CIO will be guided by the University mission, its strategic goals and by a shared strategy which is developed and managed through a relevant governance and decision making processes. The CIO must administer in a consultative manner in order to build community, maximize standards and enable local innovation.
