Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming

The Guelph Urban Organic Farm is a 1 hectare learning and research facility established by the Ontario Agricultural College within the department of Plant Agriculture, at the University of Guelph.

Research and learning
One example of collaborative, hands-on research and learning is a new vermicomposting initiative by the Guelph Worm Composting Network [http://gcuof.wordpress.com/2012/07/26/guest-post-vermicomposting-at-the-gcuof/]. Students from across disciplines come to the farm to learn about sustainable urban food production, heritage seed production, permaculture, food security, fair trade and year-round food production. The farm is also base camp and lecture space for the B.Sc.(Agr) Organic Agriculture major, an increasingly popular program in the Ontario Agriculture College. The produce is served at P.J.'s Restaurant [http://www.uoguelph.ca/pjs/] on campus.

Outreach
The farm welcomes grade school children to learn about biodiversity, sustainability and food chain in a program called Garden2Table [http://restaurantsustainability.wordpress.com/2012/03/22/garden2table/]. Children are encouraged to pitch in, sample and investigate during their visit to the Guelph Farm. Faculty and students from the Hospitality and Tourism program of the College of Management and Economics [http://www.uoguelph.ca/cme/] also develops programs and events through the farm.

Purchase produce at our market
Food that is harvested in the morning is offered for sale in the afternoon from 3-6pm every Thursday in front of the Crop Science building. [http://gcuof.wordpress.com/] during the growing season.
