This call aims to support one, or a group of, Canadian civil society organization(s) in their engagement with partner organizations in low- and middle-income countries and/or in Canada to build knowledge, research, and skills in areas related to IDRC’s current strategic and thematic priorities.

Eligibility

This call is open to organizations from Canadian civil society that are incorporated and headquartered in Canada (excluding universities, colleges, and hospitals) and produce research and share knowledge for development. The lead organization may apply on its own behalf or on behalf of a consortium of civil society organizations and should demonstrate the capacity to manage large budgets. The lead organization must be partnered by one or more other organizations based in Canada and/or low- or middle-income countries; these partners may be from the civil society, academic, government, or private sectors.

Proposed research may take place in Canada and/or in these eligible low- or middle income countries. The following exclusions apply: Russia, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Cuba, Korea (Democratic Republic of), and countries from Oceania.

Maximum Project Value

One grant of CAD$1,000,000 will be awarded.

Special Notes

Applications should identify one civil society organization as the lead or administering organization; this organization must be headquartered and incorporated in Canada and should demonstrate experience in, and capacity to manage large budgets. Funds may be disbursed by the lead organization to partnering organizations. This must be clearly outlined in the budget. (Universities, colleges and hospitals are excluded from being the lead in this call but they may be partners of the lead organization.)

Successful and non-successful applicants will receive notification of results by approximately January 11, 2016, but only shortlisted applicants will receive comments along with a request to submit a full proposal by approximately February 22, 2016. Final selection will be announced by March 31, 2016.

Partner organizations will need to provide a letter confirming their agreement to partner, explaining their role in the project and the expected benefit to them in participating. Please be in touch with the Office of Research Support Services for support.
