Chemistry PhD Candidate Awarded Canada Graduate Scholarship for International Research
Jonathan Quintal, a PhD candidate in Chemistry supervised by Dr. Aicheng Chen, has received the prestigious Canada Graduate Scholarships – Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement (CGS–MSFSS) award.
The scholarship supports short-term research experiences abroad for Canada’s top graduate students. Beginning in April 2026, Quintal will spend three months in Germany working with the research group of O. M. Magnussen at Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.
During his visit, Quintal will conduct in situ studies of electrocatalysts used in sustainable energy applications. The research aims to better understand how these materials behave under operating conditions, helping advance technologies that support cleaner energy systems.
The international collaboration will provide Quintal with access to specialized expertise and facilities while strengthening research connections between Canada and Germany in the field of sustainable energy and electrochemistry.
