About the Program

The English Plus Program is designed for students who want to improve their English language skills while exploring a specific area of interest through academic, cultural, and experiential learning opportunities.

Combining English language instruction with theme-based learning, the program helps students develop the communication skills, vocabulary, and cultural understanding needed to succeed in academic, professional, and international environments. Through engaging classroom activities, interactive projects, guest speakers, and educational experiences, students build confidence using English while expanding their knowledge of their chosen area of interest.

Specialized themes are subject to availability and approval based on student enrolment numbers and program feasibility. Each theme combines English language development with opportunities to explore real-world topics, connect with Canadian perspectives, and participate in meaningful cultural and experiential learning activities.

Admission Requirements

Students should have:

  • An interest in developing their English communication skills through academic, cultural, and theme-based learning experiences
  • A High Beginner level of English or higher

The refund policy applies only to fees paid to the University of Guelph English Language Communication & Culture (ELCC) Programs. Any additional fees paid to third parties are not subject to this policy.

ELCC applicants must request a refund and forward a copy (PDF) of their IRCC denial letter to scs-english@uoguelph.ca within two months of the denial letter date. Refund requests received after this time frame will be denied.

Application Fee: The $150 application fee is non-refundable. All housing application fees $375/$525 are non-refundable.
