Discover Your Future | Parent Information

Discover Your Future is a carefully designed summer institute for international and Canadian high school students (aged 15 to 17) that supports both academic exploration and personal development in a structured, supportive university environment. The program offers students a meaningful introduction to university life while helping them build the skills and confidence needed for a successful transition to post-secondary education.

The summer institute gives participants the opportunity to sample a range of academic disciplines from across the University of Guelph's eight colleges to help them make informed decisions about future university applications. At the same time, participants can strengthen their academic readiness and leadership abilities, while improving their social skills.

Led by experienced University of Guelph instructors and trained staff, Discover Your Future places a strong emphasis on student well-being, safety, and supervision. Program staff are available on site 24/7, including evenings and overnight, and all academic activities, sports, and off-campus excursions are fully supervised. Participants experience university classes and residence life while developing independence and responsibility within a carefully supported framework.

For international and out-of-town students, airport pick-up and transfer services are provided to ensure a smooth and safe arrival and departure. Throughout the program, students enjoy three nutritious meals each day, prepared on campus—part of the University of Guelph’s well-known reputation for having some of the best campus food in Canada.

In addition to academic learning, students benefit from meaningful peer connections and intercultural experiences by engaging with participants from around the world. Supervised social outings—including trips to Niagara Falls and Toronto, visits to local parks, and on-campus activities—offer a balanced, enriching experience that supports personal growth while ensuring students feel safe, supported, and well cared for throughout the program.
