How can I get involved?

Volunteering in the HNRU

Each year we have undergraduate students volunteering their extra-curricular time to activities in the HNRU. Some volunteers are directly involved in research activities and others may share administrative duties. The nature of the volunteer roles and availability is based on the changing needs of our projects. We recommend that you email Dr. Amy Tucker at amy.tucker@uoguelph.ca if you are looking for general HNRU volunteer positions or reach out to HHNS faculty members for their study specific volunteer needs.

Research Project Courses in the HNRU

Most commonly, undergraduate students directly contact a faculty member to inquire about availability for advising a research project course. Spaces are limited and can be competitive. We recommend that you start early and directly contact faculty members that you are interested in working with, after you have learned about their specific research interests. To learn more about our HHNS Faculty, you can read about their research on their faculty page [1].

Masters of Science by Coursework or Thesis, and Doctoral Degrees in the HNRU

Our Department offers M.Sc. degrees by Coursework with a major research project (3 or 4 semesters) or by thesis (typically 6 semesters), as well as Ph.D. degrees. It is recommended that you directly contact faculty members that you may be interested in working with, after you have learned about their specific research interests. Working with a faculty advisor for a graduate degree is a significant committment and there needs to be the right fit for both faculty and student. Be sure to read about faculty and their research activities on their faculty page [1]. Some faculty may have human research in the HNRU and it is best to contact them to learn more about future opportunities. If you are interested in learning more about our graduate programs and admission requirements, visit the HHNS website for Graduate Programs [2].
