Fall 2027-Winter 2028 Residence Application opens on Monday, February 1, 2027.

Residence Eligibility

Residence Eligibility for the Fall 2027 - Winter 2028 academic year is organized by student group. The information below outlines housing guarantees, eligibility requirements and application deadlines for each student category. Please review the section that corresponds to your student group to determine your eligibility for living in residence.

Ontario high school applicant who received an offer of admission before March 1 are guaranteed a residence space, provided they:

  • Submit a Residence Application by April 15 to confirm a guaranteed residence space.
  • Accept their offer of admission through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) by June 1.
  • Pay the $750 residence deposit by June 1. A residence deposit is not required before June 1.

Ontario high school applicants who receive an offer of admission after March 1 are not guaranteed a space in residence. However, they are welcome to apply for residence and be added to the residence wait list by following these steps:

  • Submit a Residence Application as soon as possible after receiving an offer of admission.
  • Accept their offer of admission through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) by June 1.
  • Join the residence wait list. Wait list priority is determined on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the date and time your Residence Application is submitted.
  • Beginning as early as April 16, offers of residence from the wait list may be made until our residences are at capacity.
  • Pay the $750 residence deposit by June 1. You are not required to pay the deposit to be added to the residence wait list.

Offers for the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) program are typically issued between late April and early May. Students who receive an offer of admission to the BLA program on or before April 15 are guaranteed a space in residence, provided they:

  • Submit a Residence Application;
  • Pay the $750 residence deposit; and
  • Accept their BLA offer of admission by June 1.

Students admitted to the BLA program after April 15 should contact Student Housing for more information regarding residence.

  • Your residence deposit is non-refundable once paid. We recommend that you do not submit your deposit until you are certain that you will be attending the University of Guelph.
  • You can submit your Residence Application without paying the deposit.
  • The deadline to accept your offer of admission and submit your $750 residence deposit is June 1.
  • Please review the Residence Cancellation and Deposit Refund Policies before submitting your deposit.

Out-of-province Canadian high school applicants are guaranteed a space in residence for your first year of study, provided they:

  • Submit a Residence Application by June 1;
  • Pay the $750 residence deposit by June 1; and
  • Accept their offer of admission to the University of Guelph by June 1.

Additional Notes

  • Your residence deposit is non-refundable once paid. We recommend that you do not submit your deposit until you are certain that you will be attending the University of Guelph.
  • You can submit your Residence Application without paying the deposit.
  • The deadline to accept your offer of admission and submit your $750 residence deposit is June 1.
  • Please review the Residence Cancellation and Deposit Refund Policies before submitting your deposit.

First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students who receive an offer of admission and complete the Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process are guaranteed a space in residence for their first year of study, provided they:

  • Submit a Residence Application by June 1;
  • Pay the $750 residence deposit by June 1; and
  • Accept their offer of admission to the University of Guelph by June 1.

We recommend that students complete the Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process as early as possible to ensure it is finalized before the June 1 deadline.

Students who are unable to complete the Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process by June 1 are not guaranteed a space in residence. However, they are welcome to apply for residence by submitting a Residence Application and will be considered for residence based on availability.

International students are guaranteed a space residence for the full duration of their undergraduate degree, provided they:

  • Submit a Residence Application by June 1;
  • Pay the $750 residence deposit by June 1; and
  • Accept their offer of admission to the University of Guelph by June 1.

  • Your residence deposit is non-refundable once paid. We recommend that you do not submit your deposit until you are certain that you will be attending the University of Guelph.
  • You can submit your Residence Application without paying the deposit.

International transfer students are guaranteed a space residence for the full duration of their undergraduate degree, provided they:

  • Submit a Residence Application by June 1;
  • Pay the $750 residence deposit by June 1; and
  • Accept their offer of admission to the University of Guelph by June 1.

All other transfer students will be placed on the residence wait list on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the date and time their Residence Application is received.

  • You can submit your Residence Application without paying the deposit.

Canadian Upper-Year Undergraduate Students
Residence is not guaranteed beyond your first year of study. Upper-year students will be placed on a residence wait list and assigned spaces on a first-come, first-served basis. Available residence spaces will be offered to students on the upper-year wait list only after all eligible first-year students have been accommodated.

International Upper-Year Students
With the exception of PhD students, international students who began their studies in Fall 2024 or later are guaranteed University housing for the duration of their studies at U of G, provided they are currently living in residence and submit their application and deposit by April 15 each year.

International PhD students are guaranteed University housing for the first year of their studies only.

If you are a Canadian graduate student, residence spaces are not guaranteed. Graduate student housing is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. You may submit a residence application at any time to be added to the waitlist. The residence deposit is due by June 1, and residence offers will be made after the deadline has passed.

If you are a new international graduate student entering a master's program at the University of Guelph, you are guaranteed University housing for the duration of your studies. International PhD students are guaranteed University housing for their first year of study only.

To be eligible for the international graduate student housing guarantee, you must:

  • Submit a Residence Application by June 1;
  • Pay the $750 residence deposit by June 1; and
  • Accept their offer of admission to the University of Guelph by June 1.

Residence Application Key Steps

Step 1: Receive an offer of admission to U of G

Applying for residence is a separate process from your U of G program application. You must have an offer of admission to the University of Guelph to apply for residence.

You may apply for residence before accepting your offer of admission or paying your residence deposit. However, you must accept your offer of admission and pay the deposit by June 1.

Step 3: Submit Your Residence Application

Access the application through your Housing Portal. Please refer to applicable deadlines based on your residence eligibility category.

Summer & Winter Residence

Who is eligible for Summer Residence?

Summer Residence is available to students who are enrolled in summer courses, completing a co-op work term (on or off campus), or working for Student Housing Services as summer student staff. Summer semester housing is available in our West Village community and in University Houses.
