How to Apply to Residence

Things to know before applying

Application Status

* NEW * Fall 2026 Residence Eligibility by Student Group

If you are an Ontario high school applicant and you receive an offer of admission BEFORE March 1, you are guaranteed a space in residence if you complete the following steps:

  • Submit your Residence Application by April 15 to confirm your guaranteed space in residence.  * NEW  A residence deposit is NOT required until June 1 *
  • Pay your $750 deposit by June 1, 2026 *
  • Accept your offer of admission to the University through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) by June 1, 2026

If you are an Ontario high school applicant admitted AFTER March 1 you are not guaranteed a space in residence, but you are welcome to apply for residence to be added to the residence queue by following these steps:

  • You can submit your Residence Application at any time after receiving your offer of admission.
  • Priority for the residence queue will be first-come-first-served.  You will be placed in a residence queue in order of the date/time your Residence Application is submitted. * NEW  You are not required pay the $750 deposit to be added to the residence queue.  The deposit is due by June 1, 2026.
  • Accept your offer of admission to the University through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) by June 1, 2026

Additional Notes:

  • * Note:  Your residence deposit is non-refundable once it is paid.  We advise you not to submit the deposit until you are sure you are attending the University of Guelph.  The deadline for submission of the residence deposit and your acceptance of your admission offer is June 1.
  • Please review the residence cancellation and deposit refund policies before submitting your deposit.
  • Offers to the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) program are typically issued in late April - early May.  All students who receive an offer of admission to the BLA program before May 15th will be guaranteed a space in residence if they submit the residence application and $750 deposit by June 1.

You will be guaranteed a space in residence for your first year of studies if you:

  • Submit your Residence Application by June 1, 2026
  • Pay your $750 deposit by June 1, 2026 *
  • Accept your offer of admission to the University by June 1, 2026

* Note:  Your residence deposit is non-refundable once it is paid.  You can submit your residence application without paying the deposit. The deadline for submission of the residence deposit and your acceptance of your admission offer is June 1.

First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students who are offered admission AND who complete the Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process for Students are guaranteed a space in residence for your first year of studies, if you complete the following steps:

  • Submit your Residence Application by June 1, 2026
  • Pay your $750 deposit by June 1, 2026 *
  • Accept your offer of admission to the University by June 1, 2026

 It is recommended that students submit to the Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process early to allow enough time to complete the process by the June 1 deadline. 

* Note:  Your residence deposit is non-refundable once it is paid.  You can submit your residence application without paying the deposit. The deadline for submission of the residence deposit and your acceptance of your admission offer is June 1.

If another category applies to your situation, please refer to that section for Residence Eligibility information. 

Indigenous students who are unable to complete Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process are not guaranteed a space in residence, but you are welcome to apply for residence by submitting the residence application.  Priority for residence offers will be first-come-first served. You will be placed in a residence queue in order of the date/time your application is received. You may be added to the residence queue/wait list without paying the residence deposit, as long at the deposit is paid by June 1, 2026.  Please review the residence cancellation and deposit refund policies before submitting your deposit.

For any questions regarding the Indigenous Identity Confirmation Process for Students, please email indigenous@uoguelph.ca. 

You are guaranteed residence for the full duration of your undergraduate degree if you complete the following steps:

  • Submit your Residence Application by June 1, 2026
  • Pay your $750 deposit by June 1, 2026 *
  • Accept your offer of admission to the University by June 1, 2026

* Note:  Your residence deposit is non-refundable once it is paid.

If you are an International transfer student, you are guaranteed a space in residence for the full duration of your undergraduate studies if you follow these steps:

  • Submit your Residence Application by June 1, 2026
  • Pay your $750 deposit by June 1, 2026 *
  • Accept your offer of admission to the University by June 1, 2026

* Note:  Your residence deposit is non-refundable once it is paid.  

All other transfer students will be placed on a residence wait list on a first-come-first-served basis in order of the date/time your residence appication is received.  You do not need to pay the residence deposit to apply to residence, however the deposit must be paid by June 1, 2026.

  1. Canadian upper-year undergraduate students: You are not guaranteed an offer of residence beyond your first year of studies. You will be placed on an upper year student wait list in first-come-first-served order. The upper year wait list will be used to assign available spaces in residence AFTER all other first year students are assigned.

  2. International upper-year students: With the exception of PhD candidates, if you began your studies in Fall 2024 or beyond, you are guaranteed University housing for the duration of your academic endeavors at U of G, as long as you are currently living in residence and apply and pay the deposit by April 15.  If you are an International PhD student, you are guaranteed University housing for the first year of your studies.

If you are a Canadian Graduate student, you are not guaranteed a space in residence.  Applications for graduate student housing will be on a first-come-first-served basis.  You can submit your residence application at any time to be added to the graduate student wait list.  The residence deposit is due June 1, 2026.   Offers will be made after the June 1, 2026 deadline has passed.

If you are an new incoming International Graduate student in a Masters program you are guaranteed University housing for the duration of your academic endeavors at U of G.  If you are an International PhD student, you are guaranteed University housing for the first year of your studies only.  International Graduate students must follow these steps:

  • Submit your Residence Application by June 1, 2026
  • Pay your $750 deposit by June 1, 2026 *
  • Accept your offer of admission to the University by June 1, 2026

* Note:  Your residence deposit is non-refundable once it is paid.

Fall 2026 Residence Application Key Steps

Step 1: 

Receive an offer of admission to U of G

Applying for residence is a separate process from your U of G program application. You must have an offer of admission to the University of Guelph to apply for residence.

You may apply for residence before accepting your offer of admission or paying your residence deposit. However, you must accept your offer of admission and pay the deposit by June 1.
