Holiday Break Check Out

Your deadline to check out of residence is 24 hours after your last exam, or by December 22, 2026 at 12:00 p.m., whichever comes first.

  • If you do not have any final exams, your deadline to check out is by December 5, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.

Once checked out, you must leave residence and are not permitted as a guest in residence. Staff will enter all rooms for security and fire safety checks. The University is not responsible for any loss or damage to belongings left behind.

Residences will close for the break at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, December 22, 2026.

How to Check Out

  • If you are returning to residence in January, complete the Express Checkout online in the Housing Portal. You can leave personal belongings in your room and will keep your keys during the break.

  • If you are not returning in January, return your keys to your Residence Desk.

Preparing to Check Out

  • Close and latch windows.

  • Empty garbage and dispose of any open food.

  • Leave fridge plugged in and dispose of perishables.

  • Turn off the lights.

How to Check In

  • Returning Students: Complete the Express Check-In online on the Housing Portal.

  • New Students for Winter 2027: Go to your Residence Desk to collect your keys.

Late Arrivals: If you do not check in by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Monday, January 18, 2027, your room assignment may be cancelled.

Early Arrival: To request an early check in before January 9, 2027, contact us at 519-824-4120 ext. 58701 or email housing@uoguelph.ca. No early arrivals will be granted before January 7, 2027.


Your building e-access will re-activate upon check in.

Stayover & Extension Requests

Holiday Stayover Requests: We recognize that some students may not be able to make alternate arrangements during the holiday break. You can request to stay on campus during the holiday break.

  • How to Apply: Submit a Holiday Stayover Request Form through the Housing Portal. The form can be found under In-Room Forms.

  • Application Deadline: November 15, 2026

  • Additional Fee: $500

We may not be able to grant all requests. Our team will contact you to let you know if your request has been approved.

Extension Requests: If you plan to leave campus for the Holiday Break but have extenuating circumstances that prevent you from checking out within 24 hours of your last exam, you may submit an extension request.

  • Application Deadline: November 15, 2026

  • How to Apply: Submit an Extension Request Form through the Housing Portal. The form can be found under In-Room Forms.

  • Additional Fee: $40 per extra night, plus a $20 late application fee for approved requests submitted after the application deadline.

Our team will contact you to let you know if your request has been approved. No extensions will be granted beyond December 22, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
