Primary Types of Empidoidea in the CNC

The primary types of Empidoidea in the Canadian National Collection of Insects were first cataloged by Cooper and Cumming (1993) in Part 2 of the series of publications on the primary types of Diptera in the CNC. Part 2 includes the Brachycera exclusive of the Schizophora, and the Empidoidea are treated on pages 13-34 (Dolichopodidae: pp. 13-26, Empididae: pp. 26-34). The Supplement to the Diptera types in the Canadian National Collection of Insects (Second Edition) includes all primary types of Empidoidea published after 1993 and inclusive to 31 March 2003, as well as those types inadvertently missed during the preparation of Part 2, or needing correction since the original entry. Dolichopodids are treated on pages 13-14 of the Supplement and empidids on pages 15-18.
