U of G to Reflect on Recent World Tragedies

May 15, 2008 - Campus Bulletin

Members of the University of Guelph and general community are invited to gather on Branion Plaza at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, in support of people in China, Burma (Myanmar) and the United States who have been affected by recent natural disasters.

The "Our Heart of Compassion" event will include remarks, reflections, prayers, and readings. It is being organized by the campus Multi-Faith Team and members of the U of G community.

“Our community joins with the millions of people around the world mourning the tremendous loss of human life,” says Brenda Whiteside, associate vice-president (student affairs). “Our thoughts are with the families whose loved ones are still missing, with those who have lost their homes, and with the people bringing aid and support.”

Some members of the University community are facilitating financial donations to a number of helping agencies such as the Canadian Red Cross.

U of G would like to remind its community members that counselling services are always available to assist students and employees, including during times of global distress.

The following services are available on campus:

* Counselling Services. Please call Ext. 53244 to speak with a staff member or to make an appointment.
* Employee Assistance Program for faculty and staff. Call Ext. 52133 to arrange confidential counselling.
