Undergraduate Course Waiver Contacts

When a student wishes to take a course that they are not (currently) eligible to take, it is usually the course instructor who determines whether the student will be permitted to enrol.

In certain instances, this authority may be designated to another university staff member (alternate faculty member, Program Counselling office, alternate administrator, etc.), and they can sign Course Waiver Request forms for that course.

Below is a list of all undergraduate courses (specific courses and/or entire subject areas) for which the instructor is NOT the appropriate contact for Course Waiver Request forms. The list includes contact information for the person or office that can sign Course Waiver Request forms for those courses, along with additional details that you should review prior to submitting the form.

Before reviewing the list below, take a moment to confirm that you do indeed need instructor/designate consent for the criteria you are asking to have waived.

Are you looking to enrol in a course…

  • after the course add deadline?
  • that is already full?
  • for which you do not meet the prerequisites (i.e., do not have the minimum number of completed credits and/or have not completed the prerequisite courses)?
  • that requires you to be enrolled in a corequisite course in which you not currently enrolled and have not yet completed?
  • that is restricted to a particular student cohort (that you are not part of)?
  • that requires instructor consent?

If you answered YES to any of the questions above, you do indeed need instructor/designate consent! Download the Undergraduate Course Waiver Request Form. Learn more about the course waiver process.
