Changes to Course Enrolment

If you are planning to enrol in Fall 2025 and/or Winter 2026 courses, read more about these changes to the course enrolment process:

To ensure a smooth course enrolment process, we've implemented a queuing system in WebAdvisor for days of high traffic to the Student Planning, Course Catalog and Advising (for staff) sections. When you navigate to those sections of WebAdvisor during busy periods, you may be brought to a waiting area, and you'll be placed in a queue. An estimated wait time will be provided. Once it’s reached your place in the queue, you’ll be able to access them.

For undergraduate and diploma students on the Guelph campus only.

When your course selection window opens, you'll be able to register for both Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 courses. The registration process will be very similar to what you've done in the past when selecting courses for one semester at a time. Here are three important things to keep in mind:

  • If you're using the "Subject Search" in the Course Catalog, you'll be able to see the course offering details for the Fall and Winter semesters all at the same time. You can use the filters on the left side if you only want to view one semester's course offerings at a time.
  • On the "Plan, Schedule, Register & Drop" page, you'll only be able to view your schedule for one semester at a time. You can use the navigation arrows near the top-left of the screen to switch to another semester.
  • We recommend registering for your Fall courses first, particularly if any of your Winter courses have prerequisite courses in the Fall. You won't be able to register in those Winter courses until you're registered in the prerequisites.

For undergraduate and diploma students only (all campuses).

  • Is there a course you want to take but all the sections are full? You no longer have to keep checking back to see if a seat opens up - you can join the waitlist for a course section on WebAdvisor.
  • When you add a course section to your plan that's full, there will be a "Waitlist" button in the panel on the left of the "Plan, Schedule, Register & Drop" page. Click on that button to be added to the waitlist for the course section.
  • If a space opens up in that section and you're the next person on the waitlist, you'll receive an email at your uoguelph or guelphhumber account, and you'll have until 11:59 p.m. EDT the next day to register for the class yourself on WebAdvisor. If you fail to register within the timeframe provided, you'll be dropped from the waitlist, and the seat will be offered to the next student on the list.
  • View the WebAdvisor Help Guide for Waitlists, available on the Student Planning website.

Important note: Have you confirmed that all sections of the course are full before joining a waitlist? You may have missed sections that still have seats available. When you're on the "Plan, Schedule, Register & Drop" page of WebAdvisor, the left panel only shows six sections at a time. You need to use the arrows to view the other sections. When you're in the "Course Catalog", make sure you scroll all the way down the list of sections for the course. Being on a waitlist does not guarantee a spot in the section, so please consider registering for another section if it has space available.

For undergraduate and diploma students on the Guelph campus only.

  • To improve efficiency and reduce processing delays, there is a new procedure for requesting and approving waivers of Prerequisite, Corequisite and Instructor Consent restrictions. These types of restrictions can now be waived directly by instructors or designates; you do not need to submit a Course Waiver Request form to Enrolment Services. Please email the instructor/designate to ask for a waiver. If they approve and process the waiver in the system, you can then log into WebAdvisor and register for the course - as long as your course selection window is open and no other restrictions apply. You will not receive an automatic notification when a waiver has been approved, so please follow up with the instructor/designate.
  • For Course Restriction Waivers (i.e., restrictions related to student program, credits earned or minimum average) and Late Adds, you still must complete the Course Waiver Request form (available on the Forms webpage), have it signed by the appropriate contact(s) and submit it to es@uoguelph.ca for enrolment processing.
  • Visit the Course Waiver Process webpage for more details, and check the list of Course Waiver Contacts to determine who you should contact to request a waiver.
  • Due to the new waitlist functionality in WebAdvisor, you can no longer request a Section Overload waiver and be added to a course section that's full.

For all undergraduate and associate diploma students, a registration deposit of $500 is due before you can enrol in courses. For more information, visit the U of G Deposits webpage or the Guelph-Humber Deposits webpage. First-year international students who have paid their $2000 deposit do not also need to pay the $500 deposit.

Course Selection Windows for Undergraduate and Associate Diploma Students

The course selection windows are based on the number of completed and in-progress credits. To determine when you can begin selecting courses, you can find your number of completed and in-progress credits by running your Unofficial Transcript or viewing your My Progress page on WebAdvisor.

  • To view the “My Progress” page, click on the "Academics" icon in the menu on the left, click "Student Planning" and then select “My Progress.” In the “Total Credits” bar on the right side of the page, add the number of completed credits (in dark green) and the number of in-progress credits (in light green). For more information about the “My Progress” page, watch the Student Planning video tutorial.
  • When viewing your Unofficial Transcript, add the weight of each of your current courses (displayed on the “Plan, Schedule, Register & Drop” page when you click on the course name) to the “Total Credits Completed” at the bottom of the transcript.

In order for varsity student-athletes to participate in practices and competitions, they may begin selecting courses on June 23 regardless of the number of credits. Student-athletes are encouraged to select courses as soon as possible so that coaches can set team practice times and book facilities for the season.
