OMAFRA - U of G Partnership


The OMAFRA - U of G Research Program call for Letters of Intent (LOIs) addresses priorities identified in the following research themes:

  1. Agri-Food and Rural Policy
  2. Bioeconomy - Industrial Uses
  3. Emergency Management
  4. Environmental Sustainability
  5. Food for Health
  6. Products and Value Chains
  7. Production Systems - Animals and Plants

LOIs Due by noon on October 25th, 2017.


University of Guelph faculty are eligible to be the Lead Applicant/Principal Investigator for OMAFRA - U of G Research Program projects. University of Guelph faculty includes assistant professors, associate professors and professors. 

Lead Applicants and Co-Applicants may not have overdue reports for other OMAFRA - U of G Partnership projects.

Adjunct faculty are also eligible if they meet specific criteria.

Funding Availability

$7.4 M annually across all themes

Maximum Project Value

$80K/yr; $240K per project max

Indirect Costs

Indirect costs are already incorporated into master partnership agreement for funding from OMAFRA.  No additional indirect costs are required on a project-by-project basis, on the amount requested from OMAFRA.

However, indirect costs must be included at the applicable rate (e.g. 25% or 40%) on cash contributions from Government and Industry Sponsors when those contributions leverage or “match” OMAFRA funding.

Up to three years

  • September 15, 2017, noon-1 pm, UC 442
  • September 28, 2017, 2-3 pm, Arboretum Centre


If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.

External Deadline
  • Call opens: September 13, 2017
  • LOIs due: October 25, 2017 at noon
  • Full Proposals due: early February 2018
  • Award decisions: April 2018
