One Mind Rising Star Awards

Description

The One Mind Rising Star Awards identify and fund pivotal, innovative research on the causes of and cures for brain disorders by supporting the most promising emerging leaders in the field of neuropsychiatry. Each Rising Star Research Award winner will receive $300,000 from One Mind over a three year-period to fund research for their studies, catalyzing innovations not yet supported by the federal government while encouraging collaboration and data sharing.

One Mind Bipolar Research Awards:

To advance knowledge and grow the community of researchers, up to 10 proposals on bipolar disorder will also be considered for a one-time award of $10,000.  The funds can be applied toward travel to the One Mind Music Festival or to other scientific meetings, to pilot studies, or to any other costs relevant to advancing research on bipolar disorder.  Awards will be given to highly meritorious, runner up applications to the Rising Star Awards that have direct relevance to bipolar disorder. No indirect costs are allowed.

One Mind/Inscopix Technology Supplemental Grant:

Applicants whose proposals can be enhanced by optical methods to investigate links between neural circuit/ensemble dynamics and disease phenotypes are within scope and are encouraged to apply for this supplemental grant from Inscopix

All questions about the supplemental One Mind/Inscopix Technology Grant, including technological feasibility, should be addressed to Dr. Pushkar Joshi, Director of Strategy at Inscopix: pushkar@inscopix.com.

Program details and timeline are not yet confirmed. This information will be updated when the program launches.

Eligibility

To qualify as an early career investigator, candidates should be within 10 years of their initial independent appointment as an assistant professor for academic institutions or equivalent positions for industry or other non-academic positions. Note that postdoctoral fellows are ineligible.

Candidates should have demonstrated productivity and innovation in a scientific field that can be applied to the study of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as anxiety, addiction, bipolar disorder, depression, posttraumatic stress, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, suicidality, and other serious psychiatric illnesses.

The proposal should not overlap with existing funding.

Applicants may apply for the One Mind/Inscopix Technology Grant only as a supplement to a Rising Star Award proposal. Applicants cannot solely apply to the Technology Grant.

Special Notes

Please note that research activities carried out in the context of COVID-19 need to adhere to the University of Guelph COVID-19 research principles, policies, guidelines and processes as they may be updated from time to time and communicated on the Office of Research web-page.

Indirect costs are limited to a maximum of 10% and will be taken from the direct costs.

TypeDateNotes
Internal Deadline

If you wish to be considered for VPR nomination, please submit your Expression of Interest (see How to Apply) to stratprg@uoguelph.ca.

External Deadline

If your nomination will be submitted by a nominator other than the VPR, please submit directly to the sponsor by the external deadline. Please also submit a copy of the full nomination and OR-5 to research.services@uoguelph.ca.

How to Apply

The Vice-President (Research) encourages nominations for this prestigious award, and will serve as nominator for those nominees recommended by the Research Honours and Awards Advisory Committee. If you wish to nominate a colleague or to be considered for VPR nomination, please submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to stratprg@uoguelph.ca by the internal deadline.

An Expression of Interest will include:

  • A draft letter (two-three pages) addressed to the VPR, signed by your ADR, which outlines how you/your nominee meets the criteria outlined on the One Mind Rising Star Research Awards Website
  • An up-to-date CV for nominee (and each member of the team, if applicable)

As this is an international prize, the University may engage the Global Excellence Initiative to coordinate external review of nomination.

If your nomination will be submitted by a different nominee, and therefore does not require the Vice-President's endorsement, please submit a complete nomination and OR-5 to  research.services@uoguelph.ca by the external deadline.
