Call for Applications: Faculty Position for the Latornell Professorship in Environmental Stewardship

The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development at the University of Guelph invites applications for the Latornell Professorship in Environmental Stewardship. The School is involved in Canadian and international planning and development with a focus on rural, remote, and Aboriginal communities and territories. We invite applicants who have an accredited planning degree (Bachelor or Master) and a doctoral degree in Environmental Planning, Natural Resources or a related discipline. Candidates should possess accreditation (preferred) or be a Candidate with a Professional Planning Institute or Association that is recognized by the Canadian Planning Standards Board or has a reciprocity agreement with the Canadian Planning Standards Board.

The successful candidate will have or will develop an innovative research program in the planning and management of complex natural resources and/or environmental planning problems. Experience in outreach with stakeholders in natural resources and environmental areas of interest with government agencies and civil society organizations are desirable. In addition, the successful applicant will demonstrate a capacity for developing collaborative relationships, as the candidate will need to develop strong linkages with the lead environmental management agencies, such as: the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change; the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry; as well as the Conservation Authorities and rural municipalities. Experience in advising graduate student research would be preferred, as the candidate will be engaged in graduate advising at both the master and doctoral levels.

The preferred candidate will have teaching experience and will be expected to teach at the graduate level and develop and deliver educational materials for professionals. Candidates will be expected to teach in at least two of the following areas: natural resources planning and management; environmental stewardship; community based environmental planning; policy planning and institutional analysis (regulatory and non-regulatory); land and water stewardship and management; and planning methods. The successful candidates will be expected to engage with the Latornell Endowment Committee at the University of Guelph and continue the legacy of Arthur D. Latornell.
