Recent Master of Landscape Architecture graduate Adele Pierre won the Award of Merit for Student Projects from the City of Hamilton - Urban Design and Architecture Awards, which was presented on November 9th at the City’s award celebration. Her submission was titled: “Bioswales for Ottawa Street North [1]”.

Adele’s MLA thesis, “Using Geodesign to Communicate the Effects of Bioswales on Urban Stormwater Management [2]” was advised by Professors Sean Kelly and Nadia Amoroso.  With increases in storm frequency and intensity, municipalities need to find new ways of managing stormwater. Adele's study used geodesign to model how green infrastructure can ease the burden on an aging combined-sewer system, specifically through an exploration of the conditions on a section of Ottawa Street North in Hamilton, Ontario,

Adele's thesis work was also just accepted for presentation at the 5th International Conference S.ARCH 2018 in Venice Italy, May 2018.
