Congratulations to Angela Asuncion, a second-year MSc. Candidate in Rural Planning and Development in International Development Studies for being recognized as the American Planning Association Environment, Natural Resources and Energy Division (APA-ENRE) Student Fellow for the 2020-2021 year! The APA-ENRE Student Fellowship program funds excelling graduate students whose research is related to promoting sound environmental, natural resources, and energy planning. Angela’s research, supervised by Dr. Nicolas Brunet is titled, “Building Agency in a Landscape of Extraction: Examining Transnational Corporate Behavior in the Philippines Mining Industry”. The goal of her research is to advance polarized debates arguing for or against mining, towards understanding the mechanisms that can enhance transnational corporate accountability and community agency in the Philippines.
