Drs. Sheri Longboat and Nicolas Brunet published an edited book this month entitled "Local Communities and the Mining Industry: Economic Potential and Social and Environmental Responsibilities." The book explores the challenges and opportunities at the intersection of the global mining sector and local communities by focusing on a number of international cases drawn from various locations in Canada, the Philippines, and Scandinavia. A number of students and faculty from SEDRD were involved in this effort which was funded by a five-year SSHRC Insight Grant.  The book is available via Routledge [1].

About Us

The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (SEDRD) brings together major academic fields concerned with creating strong communities, in Canada and around the world. The four highly respected programs in SEDRD share many common goals but approach them in different and complementary ways. This model reflects the imperatives in building authentic communities where planners, landscape architects, communicators, and citizens all play important interdependent roles in community strength.
