The 2024 Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) Congress was held in Winnipeg from May 30 to June 1, 2024. Important highlights from the event include:
Two UofG Landscape Architecture alumni have taken on key leadership roles within the CSLA for 2024: Catherine Berris (BLA 1978) as CSLA President and Matthew Mills (MLA 2010) as CSLA President-Elect.
Five UofG Landscape Architecture alumni received awards: Rachel Fitkowski (BLA 2013) was awarded the 2024 Emerging Professional Award [1]. National Awards [2] were awarded to several projects that exemplify Canadian landscape architecture and received by UofG Alumni:
- Sheffield Park (Coquitlam, BC) - Jeff Cutler (BLA 1994).
- Bow to Bluff (Calgary, AB) - Matt Williams (MLA 2007).
- Harvie Passage Flood Damage and Repair (Calgary, AB) - Katelyn Dunning (BLA 2006).
- Sheguiandah First Nation Community Court (Sheguiandah, ON) - Steven Shuttle (MLA 2022) on behalf of ERA Architects.
- Current fourth-year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students Faline Darling and Catherine Yan attended the conference to promote the student-run LABash conference, which will be hosted by the University of Guelph in spring 2025!
- Director Sean Kelly (BLA 1989) was welcomed to the CSLA College of Fellows [3] during the Investiture Ceremony on Saturday, the highest honor that the CSLA bestows upon its members.
The CSLA is also celebrating its 90th anniversary [4] this year!
