University of Guelph - Landscape Architecture Guest Lecture Series presents:

Matt Williams, Principal, Senior Landscape Architect at O2 Planning + Design [1], Calgary, Alberta

Lecture Entitled:  "Process and Place"

Matt is a Principal at O2 Planning + Design, managing high-profile urban design, mixed-use, campus, facility, and large park projects. Matt’s work emphasizes the development of multi-functional landscapes and public spaces that meet both the cultural and ecological needs of a site. He works collaboratively with clients, consultants, and junior colleagues through a design process of discovery and exploration to deliver award-winning projects that reflect a genuine sense of place.
Matt has served as President of the Association of Landscape Architects (AALA) and represented the AALA on the City of Calgary’s Urban Design Review Panel from 2012 to 2016. He holds a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph and a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Planning from the University of Waterloo. His expertise includes campus planning and design, public spaces, streetscapes, facilities, mixed-use developments, waterfronts, and large parks that incorporate complex urban requirements, infrastructure, programming, place-making, phasing and implementation strategies, and design guidelines.

About Us

The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (SEDRD) brings together major academic fields concerned with creating strong communities, in Canada and around the world. The four highly respected programs in SEDRD share many common goals but approach them in different and complementary ways. This model reflects the imperatives in building authentic communities where planners, landscape architects, communicators, and citizens all play important interdependent roles in community strength.
