Daniel Layden has been named the 2026 recipient of the CIP-PSTF Outstanding Graduating Student Award, a national honour recognizing exceptional students in accredited Canadian planning programs. Presented by the CIP/ICU Planning Student Trust Fund [1] (CIP-PSTF), the award celebrates graduating students who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the planning profession through academic achievement and broader engagement within their field.

Daniel completed a Master of Science (Planning) degree through the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development at the University of Guelph. Their MSc (Planning) thesis [2] examined service provision supports for rural 2SLGBTQ+ populations in Perth and Huron Counties. The research explored individual and systemic discrimination, while promoting community inclusion. Daniel is now continuing their academic journey as a PhD candidate in Rural Studies at the University of Guelph, building on their commitment to planning and rural development research. Their selection reflects both their scholarly accomplishments and their potential to make lasting contributions to the planning profession.
