The City of Guelph “Wilson Street Promenade” started as a Master of Landscape Architecture student independent study at the University of Guelph by Calen Hamelin and Cyrille Viola. This study examined various design strategies for the Wilson Street underpass, which is considered a historical gateway to Downtown Guelph. Now, the students are moving onto the next phase and have been working with the City of Guelph to bring the vision of this student project to life.

This one-day event, which will take place in conjunction with the City of Guelph’s John Galt Day festivities on August 1st, 2015, will allow visitors to envision the possibilities and potential this neglected street has to offer. The pilot project will consist of a small beach, park, farmers’ market and various activities for all visitors, while featuring artistic images created by artist displayed along the surrounding retaining walls. The event will also allow residents to participate by leaving their own drawings and comments on blank canvases provided throughout the site.

MLA student's Calen Hamelin and Cyrille Viola heading this initiative are in the coordination and planning stages, and have begun soliciting funds from potential sponsors.  They have created a funding page at gofundme [1] to help with collecting donations.  Any amount of contribution will help for their proposal.

The donations will go towards materials for a pop up park and beach, landscaping, furniture rentals, art materials, printing, plywood, tools, service fees, etc.
