MLA Student Presented Paper at GIS Education and Research Conference

Submitted by dfoolen on December 14th, 2015 1:54 PM

MLA student Adele Pierre presented a paper at the GIS Education & Research Conference hosted by ESRI Canada at Hart House, University of Toronto on November 30, 2015. The practice of Landscape Architecture is being transformed through the use of technology, and students are in a unique position to experiment with new software programs, particularly those integrating GIS data with 3D modelling. Adele has undertaken an independent study under the guidance of Professor Nadia Amoroso, looking at the ways CityEngine can be used in the study of Landscape Architecture to create powerful models. Currently modelling a stormwater management system for Ottawa Street in Hamilton, Adele plans to continue using CityEngine and related technologies in the coming year as part of her thesis work. A short blog post on some of the information presented at the conference can be found at here [1].

About Us

The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (SEDRD) brings together major academic fields concerned with creating strong communities, in Canada and around the world. The four highly respected programsĀ in SEDRD share many common goals but approach them in different and complementary ways. This model reflects the imperatives in building authentic communities where planners, landscape architects, communicators, and citizens all play important interdependent roles in community strength.
