The Atlantic Provinces Association of Landscape Architects (APALA) and the Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation (LACF) have awarded the 2016 Peter Klynstra Memorial Scholarship to Emma Tarbush, a 2017 Master of Landscape Architecture candidate at the University of Guelph.

Emma holds a BFA from NSCAD University, and intends to pursue professional employment in Atlantic Canada following completion of her MLA degree at Guelph. In summer 2016 she was engaged in the development of a tourism wayfinding and signage strategy for Inverness County, on Cape Breton Island. Her thesis work is an extension of that project, “exploring how sound can be used as a design and educational tool, to draw people to cultural features in the landscape”. The grant will enable Emma to travel to her project site in Port Hood.

The Klynstra Memorial Scholarship was established by the Atlantic Provinces Association of Landscape Architects (APALA) in collaboration with the Landscape Architecture Canada Foundation [1] (LACF).  The scholarship recognizes Peter’s long and influential career in landscape architecture and academia, inspiring clients, communities and students in Atlantic Canada.  In tribute to Peter’s influence as a mentor, the award provides an annual grant of $1000 to support an Atlantic Canadian student of landscape architecture enrolled in an accredited university program of study.
