RPD Students Help Seaforth Community Members with Ideas for Downtown Facelift

Rural Planning and Development graduate students are currently working on a project for Professor Wayne Caldwell's Advanced Planning Practice course to help Seaforth community members with ideas for downtown facelift.

The project is based in Seaforth, Ontario and focuses on four blocks of their Main Street stretching from Gordon Street intersection to the railroad crossing. The aim of the project is to develop a report for infrastructure upgrades, and provide recommendations with the goal of improving active transportation, create/foster a pedestrian-friendly downtown, and encourage a healthy environment. Engagement and data collection will occur in early February where a walking tour will be given of the site. A focus group will follow the tour, where recommendations and feedback will aid and guide the creation of the recommendations.  An active social media network will be created to ensure that the project may continue beyond April 2017. The final products from the project will be a report with all infrastructure upgrades and recommendations, including visual renderings and a cost summary. A presentation to council will accompany the report and conclude the project.
