“Academia is key to strengthening the field of communication for development (C4D) around the world, as universities play an important role in building skills in the field and in developing the human resources that will plan and implement C4D programmes, as well as influence policies”, states the global knowledge base known as The Communication Initiative Network.

SEDRD’s Capacity Development and Extension (CDE) program was recently featured in among the graduate programs and academic groups that play a role in supporting research and advocating for Communication for Development within their institutions and beyond.

CDE has offered coursework in Communication and Development for more than four decades, for a listing of relevant universities engaged in this area see link here [1].

The Communication Initiative Network was founded by John Hopkins University and receives support from partners in various United Nations agencies, Swedish International Development Agency, BBC Media Action, W.W. Kellogg Foundation and others. For more information visit the The Communication Initiative Network website here [2].

About Us

The School of Environmental Design and Rural Development (SEDRD) brings together major academic fields concerned with creating strong communities, in Canada and around the world. The four highly respected programs in SEDRD share many common goals but approach them in different and complementary ways. This model reflects the imperatives in building authentic communities where planners, landscape architects, communicators, and citizens all play important interdependent roles in community strength.
