In the spirit of flexibility and responsiveness, which is encouraged and supported by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund, Food from Thought is announcing updates to the Thematic III research funding call launched November 15, 2022.

The following changes will help ensure the call enables catalytic, transformational, and integrated projects that address Food from Thought's current strategic objectives, which are reflected in the three priority areas for this call.

  1. The budget limit has been increased from $80,000 to $120,000 per year for all priority areas ($360,000 is the new 3-year maximum ask)
  2. For research integration projects only, budgets can be stacked (i.e., $120,000 per year per PI and co-investigator(s))
  3. The deadline to apply has been extended to January 5, 2022

Description

The University of Guelph’s Food from Thought Program, funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF), is inviting eligible U of G faculty to submit proposals for the Thematic Research Fund, for projects beginning as early as April 1, 2022 and ending by March 31, 2025. This fund will support research projects that strongly align with and support Food from Thought’s mission to develop innovative solutions that improve both the sustainability and productivity of agricultural production at global, landscape, and micro scales and that fit with the current Food from Thought priorities.

Eligibility

The Thematic Research Fund is open to all faculty at the University of Guelph who are eligible to hold Tri-Agency grants.

Maximum Project Value

Projects can be up to 36 months (3 years) with a maximum request of $360,000. The duration of the proposed projects and the size of the budget request must be commensurate with the nature of the research proposed.

For research integration projects only, budgets can be stacked (i.e., $120,000 per year per PI and co-investigator(s))

Project Duration

Projects will start on April 1, 2022 and must be completed by March 31, 2025.
