Student Research Showcase

Celebrate World Soil Day in-person on December 5 by showcasing your research to industry, government and academia partners.

Elibigility

The Student Research Showcase is open to all University of Guelph undergraduate and graduate students in the soil and soil health fields. Students must have a U of G supervisor.

Format

Oral Presentation Option

  • The oral presentation session will take place during the World Soil Day event at 1 Stone Road, Guelph. Limited spots are available.
  • In front of judges and event participants, students will have a maximum of 3 minutes to explain/describe their research project. A single slide, developed by the student competitor, is required. The slide will remain fixed and be displayed for 3 minutes.
  • Presentations that go past 3 minutes will lose marks.
  • Winners will be announced at the end of the event.

Poster Presentation Option

  • The poster presentation session will take place during the World Soil Day event at 1 Stone Road, Guelph.
  • Students will set up their posters at an established time in the Atrium.
  • Judging will take place throughout the day, with results being shared at the end of the event.
  • The posters should be comprehensive, engaging, and effective at conveying concepts, ideas, or information.
  • Posters need to be 48 inches wide by 36 inches tall.
  • Students will be responsible for printing, but poster boards will be provided for display.
  • Students will need to be available at their posters during their designated window and are encouraged to stand with their poster when possible during breaks and lunch.

Prizes

First, second and third place prizes will be given for both oral and poster options. All participants will receive a participation prize.

3rd place

  • $100
