Posted on December 5, 2025

On Friday, November 21, experts, educators, and advocates gathered in London, UK, for the World Horse Welfare Annual Conference 2025 – Through the horse’s eyes, a one-day event dedicated to advancing equine welfare.

The annual conference featured insightful discussions on equine welfare research and evidence. Notable sessions included What Your Horses Would Like You to Know About Them, led by Janne Winther Christensen, associate professor at Aarhus University, and Working Equids Have Feelings Too, presented by Dr. Syed Saad Ul Hassan Bukhari, postdoctoral fellow at City University of Hong Kong.

Equine Guelph was proudly represented by director Gayle Ecker, who attended the event on behalf of the University of Guelph’s renowned equine teaching and research centre.

During his closing remarks, Roly Owers, chief executive of World Horse Welfare, offered special recognition to Equine Guelph, describing it as an outstanding source for equine research and evidence.

“It is an honour to attend this prestigious event and be inspired by the World Horse Welfare conference. This acknowledgment reinforces our commitment to providing world-class education and resources for the equine community,” says Ecker. “It’s truly gratifying to hear Equine Guelph continue to be recognized as a trusted global resource.”

This international recognition from one of the world’s leading equine welfare organizations further emphasizes Equine Guelph’s vital role in advancing the wellbeing of horses worldwide.

Ecker closes by encouraging students to watch the conference, noting that “there is important work being presented—well worth your time—and a great reminder to remain Always the Student.”
