What we do in the HNRU

What is the HNRU?

The Human Nutraceutical Research Unit (HNRU) is an educational and research facility at the University of Guelph. We are part of the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences (HHNS). We specialize in human research of foods and natural health products for health.

HNRU Mission

The mission of the HNRU is to provide experiential learning and research opportunities in the Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences.

HNRU Vision

The vision of the HNRU is to support the University's rich and intensive research and training activities in the areas of food and health, through human testing of foods and natural health products.

Management Committee Members

The HNRU is an integral part of HHNS, within the College of Biological Sciences. We have a Management Committee made up of HHNS Faculty members and one Professional Staff Manager. Please visit our HNRU Management Committee [1] page to learn more about about our Management Committee members.

Phlebotomy Team Members

The HNRU also draws upon the expertise of our Departmental Phlebotomy Team for blood sampling. These skilled phlebotomists are an important part of our clinical trial teams and you can read their biographies on the HNRU Phlebotomists [2] page.

What does the HNRU do?

Daily Operations

Our facility is unique in that we provide experiential learning opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Guelph. The HNRU is guided by the Management Committee [1] and our students and staff phlebotomists help to carry-out the operations of our clinical trials. The Manager of the HNRU is on-site to oversee daily operations and student training.  Be sure to check out some of our past and current projects in the HNRU [3].

Collaborations

Furthermore, we collaborate with other academic colleagues or institutions, industry partners and government scientists. You can learn more about working with the HNRU on our Collaborators [4] page.

Support for HHNS

The HNRU also provides infrastructure for the faculty in our Department of Human Health and Nutritional Sciences [5] to conduct their clinical trials. Check out some of the HHNS faculty studies run in the HNRU.
