2022 Schofield Lecture Presents Dr. Baljit Singh: A Serendipitous and Accidental Life
An accomplished researcher, educator and administrator in the field of veterinary medicine will present the 2022 Schofield Memorial Lecture.
Dr. Baljit Singh will draw on examples of serendipity and unintended collisions that have shaped his life, relationships and professional career.
Prior to beginning his current role as vice-president research at the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Singh served as dean of the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and as associate dean of research at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
His research focuses on cell and molecular biology of lung inflammation, with specific expertise in lung biology and anatomy.
An author or co-author of more than 135 peer-reviewed journal articles and books, he has supervised the research training of more than 100 undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students.
He has been recognized with numerous research and teaching awards: including the Outstanding Veterinary Anatomist Award from the American Association of Veterinary Anatomists; the Pfizer Award for Research Excellence; the 3M National Teaching Fellowship; and the Alan Blizzard National Award for Collaboration in University Teaching and Learning,.
In 2013, he was named a fellow of the American Association of Anatomists and in 2018, he was inducted into the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
Dr. Singh received his Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry and Master of Veterinary Science from Punjab Agricultural University in Punjab. He followed this up with a PhD from the U of G and post-doctoral training at Texas A&M University and Columbia University, New York.
The 2022 Schofield Lecture takes place on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 3:30 PM in the Ontario Veterinary College’s Enhanced Clinical Learning Addition (ECLA) 1720, as well as via Microsoft Teams. This is a free event and all are welcome.
