Ontario is facing a dire veterinary shortage, leaving many animals without the care they need. The Medical and Surgical Learning Centre (MSLC) at the Ontario Veterinary College will be a state-of-the-art facility designed to increase our capacity to train more veterinarians, enhance hands-on learning, and ensure graduates are fully prepared to meet the growing demand for animal care across the province and beyond.

OVC News
U of G is strengthening veterinary care in northern Ontario through a partnership with Lakehead University, delivering the Collaborative Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program to address the shortage of veterinarians in the province.
OVC has been ranked sixth in the world for veterinary science in 2025 by Quacquarelli Symonds , rising from eighth place in prior year. OVC ranks fourth in North America and has maintained its position as the top veterinary school in Canada.
Improving access to veterinary care for people and pets is the shared concern of two Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) who have been named the inaugural recipients of the PetSmart Charities of Canada Scholarship.
